INTERACTION OF SURFACE AND GROUNDWATER IN THE MIRZACHUL IRRIGATED REGION UNDER CLIMATE CHANGE CONDITIONS

Abstract

Mirzachul is one of the largest irrigated regions of Uzbekistan, where the sustainability of agricultural production depends on the interaction of surface water, groundwater, irrigation networks, and the collector-drainage system. In arid conditions, water use efficiency determines not only crop yields but also the soil-reclamation status, groundwater level, and the intensity of salinization processes. Therefore, Mirzachul should be considered as a complex hydro-reclamation system in which water exchange, salt migration, and reclamation processes are closely interconnected.
