A STANDARDIZED ALGORITHM FOR THE COMPREHENSIVE FORENSIC MEDICAL EXAMINATION OF DECEASED INDIVIDUALS IN VARIOUS FORMS OF ASPHYXIA

PDF

Abstract

Recent epidemiological studies demonstrate significant regional differences in the structure and frequency of asphyxial conditions. In developed countries, cases of suicidal hanging (45-60% of all mechanical asphyxia cases), drowning (20-25%), and asphyxia in road traffic accidents (8-12%) are predominant. In contrast, in developing regions, occupational poisoning with carbon monoxide and other toxic substances accounts for a significant share (up to 30-35% of cases).
