THE SIGNIFICANCE OF ELLSWORTH HUNTINGTON AND HIS SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH RESULTS FOR THE HISTORY AND HISTORICAL GEOGRAPHY OF UZBEKISTAN
Abstract
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Central Asia, and in particular the territory of present-day Uzbekistan, became not only the arena of the geopolitical “Great Game” between major empires, but also the center of intense scientific research by Western scientists. During this period, the rich history, archaeological monuments, and complex geographical structure of the region attracted a number of researchers. Among them, the American geographer, climatologist, and historian Ellsworth Huntington (1876–1947) occupies a special place.
