IDENTIFICATION OF THE SEGMENTAL TRANSFORMATION AND DIVERSIFICATION OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE IN SERVICES

Abstract

This study analyzes service trade transformation across 138 economies (2005 –2024) using 16 indicators. It identifies “upward mobility mechanisms” where digital/financial services buffer shocks, unlike tourism -dependent economies. A transition probability m atrix shows high- income “stickiness” (98.65%). The “service-sector hierarchy paradox” reveals upper- and lower- middle-income structures are statistically indistinguishable, challenging linear development. Over 94% of trade variation stems from fundamentals, with service imports most explanatory (R²=0.326). Digital integration, not income growth alone, drives sustainable mobility.
