ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPACT OF THE HUMAN FACTOR ON THE RELIABILITY OF COMPUTER NETWORKS

PDF

Abstract

Modern computer networks are complex multi -layered systems whose reliability depends not only on the technical characteristics of the hardware but also on the quality of personnel performance. A significant proportion of failures, malfunctions, and information security incidents result from human error. Incorrect router configuration, server misconfiguration, delayed responses to cyberattacks, or violations of administrative procedures can lead to substantial data loss and network infrastructure failures. In this context, Human Reliability Analysis (HRA) has become increasingly important. HRA encompasses a set of methods and models designed to assess human reliability during interaction with technical systems. Its primary objective is to estimate the probability of human error and evaluate its impact on overall system performance. In computer networks, HRA is applied to analyze the performance of system administrators, network operations center (NOC) operators, cybersecurity engineers, and other specialists whose activities directly affect the stability and reliability of network operation.
