PHONETIC STYLISTIC DEVICES IN UZBEK RIDDLES
Abstract
Riddles, as a significant genre of oral folk art, are distinguished by their complex semantic and linguistic characteristics. Uzbek folk riddles, in particular, are recognized as speech units with a multi-layered and intricate semantic structure, wherein s tylistic devices play a crucial role as one of the main mechanisms for encoding and implicitly expressing hidden meanings in their semantic organization. The linguistic nature of a riddle is precisely shaped by stylistic devices; conversely, without them, a riddle would devolve into a mere description. Our research indicates that the linguistic units employed in riddle texts often rely on figurative meaning, associativity, and imagery. This complexity enhances their artistic expressiveness and challenges th eir interpretation. From this perspective, we believe that the linguostylistic study of riddles is essential for identifying their internal semantic system and expressive mechanisms. Uzbek folk riddles vividly demonstrate the imaginative and implicit expressive capabilities of the language.Author Biography
