STRATEGIES AND TACTICS FOR RENDERING GENDER STEREOTYPES IN LITERARY PROSE
Abstract
The article examines how gender stereotypes embedded in literary source texts are rendered in translation. Drawing on von Flotow’s feminist translation strategies, supplementing, prefacing/footnoting, and hijacking, alongside lexical, metaphorical, syntactic, and pragmatic tactics, the study shows how translators reproduce, neutralize, or subvert gendered meanings at both macro-and micro-textual levels. The analysis argues that translational choices regarding feminitives, evaluative vocabulary, agency distribution, and dialogue are never ideologically neutral, and calls for translator awareness of their cumulative effect on gender representation.Author Biography
