Abstract

In contemporary literary studies, the artistic text is examined as a complex cultural phenomenon existing in constant dialogue with other texts, a process of particular importance in the genre of the historical novel, since the historical novel recreates the reality of the past through document, memory, narrative, and prior artistic interpretations. Khayriddin Sulton’s novel “Yaldo Kechasi,” published in 2025, is noteworthy in this respect: sources record that the work’s presentation was held in Tashkent on December 21, 2025 - the day the year’s longest night, the “yaldo” night, begins - and that the novel was presented as a work of artistic fiction built on historical documents. Moreover, the fact that the work appeared on the eve of the centenary of “Otkan Kunlar,” regarded as the cornerstone of Uzbek novel-writing, lends it additional symbolic meaning.
