TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING IN CRISIS SITUATIONS AND UNDER MARTIAL LAW: THE ROLE OF TRANSLATORS AND INTERPRETERS IN ENSURING INTERNATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNICATION

PDF

Abstract

In the modern globalized world, translation is one of the key instruments for ensuring international cooperation. Translation activity becomes particularly relevant in crisis situations, armed conflicts and emergency circumstances, when effective communication between representatives of different states, international organizations and social groups becomes critically important. Traditionally, a translator has been regarded primarily as a specialist who performs linguistic mediation between participants of communication. However, contemporary realities have significantly transformed the nature of translation activity. In crisis conditions, translators perform a much broader range of functions: they ensure access to information, facilitate international cooperation and help overcome communication barriers between representatives of different legal and cultural systems. This issue has gained particular importance in the context of the full-scale war in Ukraine, which has significantly intensified cooperation between Ukrainian state institutions, international organizations, law enforcement agencies of other countries, humanitarian missions and foreign experts.
